Major parties disappointed
Expressing disappointment over the High Court (HC) verdict in the jail killing case, major political parties yesterday said justice has not been meted out.
"We wanted justice but it has not been done. The verdict has utterly frustrated us," Awami League (AL) acting President Zillur Rahman told reporters at his Gulshan residence in the capital.
The AL leader said the people would not accept the verdict, which would be considered as a 'bad example.'
He said with the acquittal of those convicted by lower court, the murderers would be encouraged to continue their 'evil deed'.
Zillur said the country's greatest leaders were murdered inside jail but the killers are yet to be brought to justice.
"This is unfortunate", he added.
Jatiya Party acting Chairman Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud said, "We are not happy with the verdict. But we have to accept the judgement of the highest court."
Workers' Party President Rashed Khan Menon said the judgement was delivered ignoring reality. "We are shocked at the verdict. If darkness clouds the judiciary, justice can not be done," said Menon.
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal President Hasanul Haque Inu said, "The national leaders were killed in front of prison guards and all the murderers were identified. We are not happy with the verdict."
Communist Party of Bangladesh General Secretary Mujahidul Islam Selim told The Daily Star that the High Court verdict did not reflect justice.
