Charge framing against Mir Nasir now Oct 17
A Chittagong court yesterday re-fixed October 17 for framing charge against former BNP state minister Mir Mohammad Nasir Uddin and his son barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin in two separate tax evasion cases.
Maznul Ahsan, acting judge of the Divisional Special Court, re-fixed the date as the defence lawyers appealed for time to discuss the cases with the accused.
Chittagong Metropolitan Public Prosecutor advocate Ahsanul Haq Hena opposed the appeal.
After hearing both the sides the court re-fixed the date.
The defence lawyers made another appeal for providing division to Mir Helal when the court upheld the previous order to take measures as per the jail code.
Earlier, Mir Nasir and his son Helal were brought to Chittagong from Dhaka by a prison van and produced before the court at about 1:45pm.
National Board of Revenue (NBR) Deputy Tax Commissioner Bhuban Mohan Tripura filed the cases with the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's court against them on September 16 for evading income tax and concealing information in the wealth statements submitted to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Joint forces arrested Mir Nasir on February 4 while his son Helal was detained on February 22.
