LGED office besieged for road repair
Over 3000 people from 16 villages in Tala upazila, walked 15 kilometers to Satkhira town yesterday, laid a siege Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) office and submitted a memorandum for re-construction of the 15 km Dalua-Kalaroa road.
They also formed a human chain in front of the LGED office to press the demand.
LGED Executive Engineer In-charge Monzurul Aalam Siddique told them that he would do his best to solve the problem.
Talking to this correspondent, freedom fighter Tabibur Rahman and Gazi Hamijuddin of Sharsha village and Dhandia Union Parishad member Saheb Ali said people of the area have been demanding repair of the unusable road for eight years.
Political leaders during their governments and officials gave assurances but did nothing, they alleged.
Once the election is over, they were never seen”, lamented freedom fighter Tabibur Rahman.
