Demanding trial of war criminals through poetry
A poetry recitation evening, titled Muktijuddher Kabita Pather Ashar, was held at the local Shaheed Minar premises recently. Shabda Abriti Charcha Kendra organised the event as part of a month-long poetry recitation programme throughout the country.
Recitors of several cultural organisations recited poetry on the occasion. Dipa of 'Anuprash'; Mahi, Rakhi, Orna of 'Abriti Niketan'; Joya, Rifa, Taseen of 'Udhy Diganta'; Liya, Smriti, Dana, Rumpa, Priyanka, Runa, Nirmol and Rezvi of 'Shabda Abriti Charcha Kendra' recited poems at the programme. The young talents of 'Shabda Abriti Charcha Kendra' also performed a jari gaan, titled Bir Bangalee.
Amir Ahmed Chowdhury Ratan, convenor of Sammilito Sangskritik Jote, Mymensingh unit, inaugurated the programme. 'Mymensingh Nagorik Andolan and Unnyan Sangram Parishad' president, advocate Anisur Rahman Khan; Freedom Fighter commander Abdur Rob; General Secretary of 'Nazrul Mancha', local unit, advocate Moazzem Hossain Babul and General Secretary of 'Udichi Shilpi Goshthi', local unit, Sarwar Kamal Robin spoke at the programme. General secretary of 'Shabda Abriti Charcha Kendra', Khan Sohana Kabir Liya delivered the welcome speech.
The speakers asserted that the anti-Liberation War forces committed crimes twice over: first in 1971, but then they also murdered the father of the nation in 1975.
The government should take initiatives to identify the war criminals, put them on trial and give war heroes their due respect, they said. Poetry could be a powerful tool against all injustice and oppression, said the speakers.
