Five chargesheeted for evading tax in Benapole

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday submitted supplementary chare sheet accusing five people of evading tax worth Tk 1 crore while importing ball pen from India in 2003.
They are the owner of Real Enterprise Nazmul Islam, owner of MA International Abdullah Al Mamun, owner of Arman Transport Arman Hossain Kakon, Harez Ali and truck driver Amjad Hossain.
In the charge sheet, the investigation officer (IO) said police seized a ball pen-laden truck on Jessore-Benapole road on March 8, 2003.
Both the helper and the driver managed to flee.
Later, owner of the Real Enterprise, who first tried to manage police and recover the goods, also went into hiding to escape arrest.
Police found inconsistency in the relevant documents, but the then IO of the case submitted final report recommending release of the accused for mysterious reasons on January 31, 2004.
The court then ordered for fresh probe and submission of supplementary charge sheet.
Meanwhile, Nazmul was arrested from the Zia International Airport on May 5 of this year.
National Board of Revenue (NBR) ordered to freeze the bank accounts of Nazmul and his wife Sabiha Sultana.
