One person was injured and belongings worth Tk 5 lakh of passengers of a Jamalpur-bound bus coming from Dhaka was looted by a gang of robbers at Bailor on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Trishal upazila in the early hours of yesterday, police said.
Robbers, in guise of passengers, climbed on the bus at Gazipur intersection at night, they said. As the bus reached Bailor, robbers started looting belongings of passengers.
Soon after the incident, Trishal police conducted raids in Trishal and arrested Kabir Hossain, 35, hailing from Konabari in Gazipur.
On suspicion, passengers held bus driver Abdul Malek, 28, of Jamalpur and handed him over to police.
When contacted, Trishal Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Abul Khair Matobbar confirmed the incident. 'Raids are being conducted to arrest the robbers,' he said.
