Acting Vice Chancellor of Rajshahi University (RU) Prof Mamnunul Keramat yesterday said the university authorities took necessary steps to reopen the university soon.
The VC held an emergency meeting with high officials and senior teachers at his residence and discussed the campus situation.
RU Treasurer Prof Mozammel Haque, Registrar Prof Muhammad Shafi, Proctor Enamul Haque, deans of faculties, hall provosts, departmental heads and syndicate members attended the meeting.
Meanwhile, the eight-member probe committee formed by the Syndicate started investigation into Tuesday's incidents and interviewed many witnesses yesterday.
On Saturday night, several hundred local traders under the banner of 'Binodpur Bazar Businessman Association' met the VC at his residence and urged him to reopen the university. University high officials were also present.
Talking to newsmen yesterday, the VC blamed outsiders for Tuesday's clash between students and traders that left 60 people including teachers, students and policemen injured.
On Wednesday, RU authorities closed the university sine die and asked resident students to vacate all 16 dormitories.
He told newsman that outsiders attack and ransacked the residence of Shah Mukdum Hall provost and beat a number of students Tuesday night.
