Marshall breaks ODI sixes mark
Xavier Marshall hammered a record 12 sixes in an unbeaten 157 to propel West Indies to 303-4 and a 49-run win in the Canada Cup Tri-Series in King City on Friday.
Marshall surpassed the best of 11 for most sixes in a one-day international, held by Sri Lankan Sanath Jayasuriya and Pakistan's Shahid Afridi.
The 22-year-old also hit 11 fours in 118 balls while Leon Johnson added 51 as Canada struggled.
The hosts were bowled out for 254 in 47.2 overs, Brendan Nash taking 3-56.
Rizwan Cheema excelled with the bat for Canada, hitting 89 off just 69 balls, and they did well to get so close to a massive target.
Afterwards, understated West Indies coach John Dyson described Marshall's innings as "quite spectacular".
He added: "The innings was filled with good control and he hit the ball along the ground. Once he got to a 100, he opened up and showed us what an attacking player he is."
The two sides will meet again in the final in Ontario on Sunday after both teams beat Bermuda in their opening matches.
