11 of 17 JMB men yet to be arrested
Law enforcers have failed to arrested 11 of 17 charge-sheeted JMB militants in four separate cases of August 17 serial bomb blasts of 2005.
Four are in Khulna district jail while two main accused -- Shaikh Abdur Rahman and Siddiqul Islam alias Bangla Bhai -- were hanged on March 3 last year as they were convicted in murder case.
JMB cadres launched serial bomb blasts on August 17 in 2005 in 14 spots under Khulna Sadar, Sonadanga, Daulatpur police stations in the metropolitan city and Batiaghata upazila in Khulna district.
Police pressed charge sheets in bomb attack cases with Khulna Sadar, Sonadanga and Daulatpur police stations to court on November 8 in 2005 and another case with Batiaghata Police Stations on November 17 the same year naming 17 JMB cadres as accused.
The eleven absconding accused are Asadul Islam, Tanvir Hossain, Abu Hanif, Feroze, Saiful Islam, Mahfuz Hossain, Mohammed Musa, Shabbir, Shakib, Abdullah and Mamun.
Trial of the bomb blast case in Batiaghata Police Station began in February 7 this year in the Special Tribunal No 4 of Judge Md Barekuzzaman.
The court recorded statements of only nine out of 43 prosecution witnesses of this case while trial of this case could not be completed yet.
Meanwhile, security measures have been beefed up in city and all nine upazilas in the district as special operations were launched to nab the absconding accused.
