Vow to resist acid violence in Satkhira
It was a unique event for the people of remote Dhalbaria union in Kaliganj upazila where about 400 people including local government leaders at a meeting yesterday vowed to fight against acid violence.
They also decided to launch a campaign to create awareness among rural people against the curse.
The meeting, jointly organised by Action Aid and local NGO Sodesh, was held at Dhalbaria Union Parishad (UP) auditorium with UP member Ashraf Hossain in the chair.
Local elite including school and madrasa teachers attended the programme.
Speakers at the meeting said acid violence is the worst form of violence against women, which has to be stopped completely.
They also demanded stringent laws and harder punishment for perpetrators and suggested joint efforts by all in society to stand by victims to rehabilitate them in society.
