Cinema Fair '08 at BFDC

It was a huge gathering of film directors, actors, behind the screen workers, producers, distributors, researchers and cine journalists at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) premises yesterday. Persons involved with film industry enthusiastically participated in the daylong Cinema Fair '08, the first of its kind in the country.
The fair was organised to celebrate a golden moment in the history of film industry of Bangladesh: premiere of Mukh O Mukhosh, the first 'talkie' in this part of Bengal. Abdul Jabbar Khan's Mukh O Mukhosh was premiered on August 2 and was commercially released on August 3, 1956.
Secretary of Ministry of Information Jamil Osman inaugurated the fair, which was jointly organised by BFDC and Channel-i.
The BFDC premises was well decorated with photographs of renowned film actors, directors, cinematographers and editors. Moreover, there were many posters of the box-office hits in the history of film industry. People also flocked to different stalls to watch the documents of films as well as actors and directors at the pavilions.
Moreover, cultural programmes continued at venues-- Zahir Raihan Venue and Khan Ataur Rahman Venue-- in which leading playback singers and actors performed.
Information Secretary Jamil Osman said, "We like to boost BFDC based films, which had been in peril for over many years. We hope the arrangement will encourage the people involved with film industry."
A.N.M. Badrul Amin, managing director of BFDC, said, "Our intention is to generate interest on cinema. At the fair there will be exchange of ideas and get together of seasoned and young actors, directors and technical hands, which will be encouraging for films."
"We are celebrating the date of premiering Mukh O Mukhosh, with the hope to revive the golden era of our film industry. We will organise the programme regularly," he added.
As the arrangement of the fair was quite expensive, BFDC jointly organised the event with Channel-i, Badrul Amin further added.
Faridur Reza Sagar, managing director of Impress Telefilms Limited, said, "We are really proud to be a part of the programme. Over the years, Impress Telefilms Limited is actively contributing for the development of film industry by producing a good numbers of quality movies."
Renowned actors, directors and technical hands also hoped for regular arrangement of such fairs. They also demanded holistic approach from the government for the development of film industry of Bangladesh.
A total of 18 renowned artistes were awarded at the programme for their remarkable contribution in various sectors in cinema such as acting, directing, cinematography, film editing, dance direction, music composing, lyric, art direction, playback singing and action direction.
