Probe team submits report today
A three-member team formed at Bangladesh Agriculture University (BAU) to investigate an incident of assault on Rural Sociology Department assistant professor Md Wakilur Rahman, also house tutor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall allegedly by the activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), is likely to submit report today.
The BAU authorities formed the team on Wednesday to investigate the Monday's incident. They allegedly assaulted the house tutor of the hall for failure of the hall authorities to place wreath at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's portrait on the founding day of the hall on July 29.
The investigation team is being headed by Prof Dr Md Shamsuddin, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture Engineering and Technology, also a member BAU Syndicate. Other members are BAU Proctor Prof Dr Mohammed Samsuddin and Prof Dr Md Nazrul Islam of Agronomy Department of Agriculture Faculty.
All house tutors of the hall abstained from duties protesting the incident. Thirty-seven house tutors also submitted resignation letters giving three days ultimatum to the university authorities.
BAU Teachers' Association and Provost Parishad demanded punishment to the attackers without further delay.
Meanwhile, Wakilur Rahman, at a press conference held at BAU Guest House Wednesday afternoon, protested 'misleading' reports published in different newspapers.. He refuted the allegations terming the reports false, fabricated and propaganda of vested quarters.
He said he had been appointed on purely merit basis. In student life, he was never involved in activities of any political party, but the attackers identified him a terrorist, he repented.
Twelve house tutors of different residential halls were present there.
Later, BCL activists, at another press conference denied their involvement in the incident. They demanded a neutral probe into the incident.
