Toll collection from CNG autorickshaws stops at last
The leaseholder of Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge-1 (Buriganga bridge) has finally stopped collecting tolls from CNG-run autorickshaws.
The Daily Star ran reports in the last few days on collection of tolls from CNG-run autorickshaws by Alim Miah and Sons in violation of the lease agreement.
Officer-in-charge of Shyampur Police Station Alamgir Hossain, who visited the bridge around 7:00pm yesterday, asked the toll collectors not to collect toll from autorickshaw drivers, said a driver.
Alamgir told The Daily Star that collection of tolls from autorickshaw drivers stopped in the evening.
Earlier on Monday, the Roads and Highways Department Sub-Divisional Engineer KM Noor-e-Alam filed a general diary with Shyampur police seeking legal actions against the leaseholder for illegally collecting tolls from CNG-run autorickshaws.
The lessee Alim Miah and Sons had been charging each autorickshaw Tk 10 per trip without any money receipt, collecting over Tk 1 lakh a day.
