ASK concerned over 'crossfire'
Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK) in a statement yesterday expressed grave concern over the growing number of killings of alleged criminals in 'crossfire' by the law enforcing agencies, especially the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab).
ASK urged the government to immediately stop the 'extra-judicial' killings and try the 'criminals' as per the laws of the land.
Describing the killing of Dr Mizanur Rahman alias Tutul, a leader of Purba Banglar Communist Party (ML Lal Pataka), ASK said the latest killing proved once again that the 'criminals' are being killed in the name of so-called crossfire.
The statement alleged that the story police fabricated regarding his killing is not trustworthy.
Referring to the trial and execution of the militants and Ershad Sikder through investigation, the statement said that the 'state-supported' killings cannot be accepted.
It added that the country's constitution and judicial system would become useless if such killings continue.
