Boy used as camel jockey receives compensation

Shahadat Hossain Rakib, a 14-year-old boy of Munshiganj who had been used as a camel jockey in Dubai, received Tk 1.4 lakh compensation yesterday.
Deputy Commissioner Monir Uddin handed over the cheque to the boy and his father at a programme. The government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has provided the compensation.
Rakib, son of Nurul Islam and Shahida Begum of Abdullahpur village in Tongibari, had been being used as a camel jockey in Dubai since 1997. He was rescued and brought back to the country in October 2006.
The boy is yet to recover from his trauma and illness.
Bangladesh National Women Lawyers Association has helped realise the compensation, sources said.
