The deal comes official
Citycell has asked the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) told hold at least 16 tournaments each year during their three-year contract, which was finalised yesterday.
The cellular phone operator, BFF's 'partner in progress', will provide Tk 16.5 crore for the next three years.
The two organisations had signed an MoU on July 15 but the deal was officially sealed at an agreement signing ceremony at the BFF Bhaban yesterday.
BFF president Kazi Salahuddin and Citycell's CEO Michael Seymour signed the agreement on behalf of the two parties.
The BFF also received Tk one crore, the first instalment of the payment, and will get a further one crore before the start of the 2nd B. League. The rest of the money will arrive step by step based on need of the federation.
"We have settled the details and conditions of the deals after face to face discussions. Now everything has become official," told a relived BFF chief Salahuddin.
Among the 16 programmes to be organised by the football's governing body, Citycell will be title sponsors of three tournaments -- Federation Cup, B. league and School Championship -- and partner of the remaining.
"We have already presented 12 programmes of our yearly calendar and Citycell will provide us the money phase by phase. The deal of Tk 5.5 crore per annum is final and we hope for the best possible use of the money," he said.
"Most of the money would be used for development work and our focus will be on the districts outside Dhaka.
Salahuddin disclosed that 10 percent of the amount will go to the agency which helped sealing the contract.
"We hope to see significant development in football, we believe Bangladesh has huge potential and our partnership with BFF will help the youth to stand up with the sporting spirit. Citycell has countrywide network and we will see where we can work in with BFF's involvement," said Seymour.
Although the BFF officials could not reply instantly to a question whether the federation will have to pay VAT for the contracted money, it was later learned that it will not have to do so.
The BFF high-ups including senior vice-president Abdus Salam Murshedi, finance committee chairman Anwarul Hoque Helal and Citycell's head of marketing Ananda Rajasinghan and general manager (marketing, communications and branding) Sania Mahmood were also present.
