4 teachers lock Sust admin office
The vice-chancellor, registrar and other officials could not enter their offices as four associate professors, pressing for their 'due promotion', put the main gate of the administrative building of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) under lock and key yesterday morning.
Their promotion to the post of professor had been lying pending for four years, said the teachers -- associate professors Dr Syed Badiuzzaman Faruque, Dr Abdul Hannan, Dr Shamsunnahar Begum and Dr Mahfuza Ahmed, all of the Department of Physics.
The demand was placed long before but the vice chancellor paid no heed to their legitimate claim for the up-gradation, they said.
The teachers had been staging sit-in front of the Registrar's Building for the last five days.
Sust offices could not function yesterday due to the teachers' agitation, Sust Registrar Zamil Ahmed Chowdhury told The Daily Star yesterday afternoon.
