Protests mounted yesterday in several districts against assault of a freedom fighter by Jamaat-Shibir activists in the capital on Friday.
For the second day, students including activists of Chhatra League staged day-long demonstrations at Rajsjaji University braving rains, demanding punishment of the culprits and ban on the so-called Jamaat-backed freedom fighters' body.
Freedom fighter Sheikh Mohammad Ali was assaulted by Jamaat-Shibir cadres at Friday's a gathering in the capital organised by Jatiya Muktijoddha Parishad, floated by Jamaat.

Our RU Correspondent reports: Hundreds students under banner of Muktijoddhar Santan yesterday staged a demonstration on the campus and demanded punishment of Jamaat-Shibir cadres who assaulted freedom fighter Sheikh Mohammad Ali for seeking trial of war criminals.
Ignoring rain, they brought out a procession on the campus chanting slogans against anti-liberation forces and the Jatiya Muktijoddha Parishad and held a rally in front of Central Library.
Speakers at the rally demanded a ban on so-called Jatiya Muktijoddha Parishad for misleading the people and making derogatory comments about the Liberation War.
They criticised the government for ignoring the demand for initiating trial of war criminals and gave it a July 21 deadline for trial of culprits behind Friday's incident. They threatened of tougher agitation for non-compliance.
Urged all progressive forces to unite, the speakers said a freedom fighter was assaulted at a time when the Sector Commanders Forum are demanding trial of war criminals. This shows audacious attitude of anti-liberation forces, they said.
The RU unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League, student front of Awami League, also brought out a procession and held a rally on the campus demanding punishment of culprits who assaulted freedom fighter Sheikh Mohammad Ali.
The rally also demanded ban on the so-called Jamaat-backed freedom fighters' body and trial of war criminals.
Rajshahi Theater, a cultural body, also urged freedom fighters and progressive organisations to unite to resist anti-liberation forces.
Our Mymensingh Correspondent reports: Leaders of Mymensingh district unit command of Muktijuddah Sangsad yesterday said assault of Sheikh Mohammad Ali is assault of the nation and all freedom fighters.
“We have no language to condemn the incident”, Muktijuddah Sangsad commander in Mymensingh Md. Abdur Rob said at a press conference at Mymensingh Press Club.
Jamaat has formed a body with 'fake freedom fighters' to befool the people and foil their demand for trial of war criminals, he said in a written statement.
