Goods train derails at Bhairab
Railway communications between Bhairab Railway Junction and the eastern zone was disrupted for more than two hours yesterday as four wheels of a Dhaka-bound goods train from Chittagong derailed between Bhairab Railway Bridge and Bhairab Junction.
Following the derailment at 8:15am, Sylhet-bound Parabat Express, Noakhali-bound Upakul Express and Chitta-gong-bound Mahanagar Express remained stranded at Bhairab for more than two hours.
Mymensingh-bound Balla Local returned to Sylhet zone from Brahmanbaria Railway Station.
As a result, train communications on Dhaka-Chittagong, Dhaka-Noakhali, Dhaka-Sylhet and Sylhet-Mymensingh routes remained suspended for two hours and 15 minutes.
On information, a relief train rushed to the spot from Akhaura Railway Junction and removed the derailed wagons form the track.
Rail communications in that zone resumed at 10:30am.
At least three devastating train accidents occurred in Bhairab-Sylhet route in the last two years, claming 16 persons and injuring 200 others. The loss was estimated at about Tk 1 crore.
