DSE indices decline
Indices on the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) fell yesterday.
The DSE General Index fell by 29.73 points, or 0.98 percent, closing the day at 2990.56 points, while the DSE All Share Price Index declined by 21.5 points, or 0.83 percent, finishing at 2564.1 points.
Of the issues traded on the premier bourse, 75 advanced, 145 declined and nine remained unchanged.
Market insiders said the investors are yet to regain their confidence that they lost recently due to measures taken by the regulator and stock exchange authorities to cool down the overpriced market.
Yesterday, during the first 15 minutes the benchmark index gained around 17 points. After that, the market started to fall. By the one-hour mark, the day's trading market declined by almost 10 points lower than the opening index. The market remained relatively stable, although a little on the down side, for the next hour. Then for the next 75 minutes, it declined again at a steady rate. The rest of the day was stable and the market closed with a flat mood.
A total of 1,51,48,090 shares worth Tk 255.03 crore were traded on the prime bourse.
Like the DSE, price indices on the Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed lower with the losers dominating the gainers.
The CSE Selective Categories Index fell by 56.77 points, or 0.96 percent, to close at 5840.97 points, while the CSE All Share Price Index declined by 62.5 points, or 0.68 percent, to finish at 9044.95 points.
A total of 30,10,852 shares worth Tk 25.02 crore changed hands on the port city bourse, of the issues traded, 39 advanced and 89 declined with three unchanged.
