DSE halts share trading of four firms

Trade suspension of shares continued for two consecutive days on the premier bourse as transaction of shares of four companies was halted yesterday.
The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) authorities suspended trading of National Polymer Industries, 2nd ICB Mutual Fund, 3rd ICB Mutual Fund and Bangladesh Shipping Corporation. However, trading of the insurers will resume today.
The trade suspension is a move by the stock exchange authorities to cool down the overpriced market.
Recently, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) asked the Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges to take measures such as trading halt and putting companies under spot market trade, if the prices of any company's shares went up irrationally.
On Tuesday, the DSE halted share trading of Global Insurance, Delta Life Insurance, Purbani General Insurance, Bangladesh General Insurance, Agrani Insurance, Asia Pacific General Insurance, Eastern Insurance and Mercantile Insurance.
On Sunday, the DSE suspended the trading of shares of four companies, Beximco Pharma, Apex Spinning, Bangladesh Shipping Corporation and Delta Spinners, on the grounds of an overpriced market.
Yesterday, the price indices on the DSE closed higher as the DSE General Index rose by 20.59 points, or 0.67 percent, to 3067.52 points.
The DSE All Share Price Index also increased by 16.41 points, or 0.63 percent, to 2601.6 points.
A total of 1,59,99,148 shares worth Tk 253.29 crore changed hands. Of the issues traded, 133 advanced and 91 declined while eight remained unchanged.
The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also closed higher with the CSE Selective Categories Index rising by 44.86 points, or 0.75 percent, to 5958.78 points and the CSE All Share Price Index increasing by 62.67 points, or 0.68 percent, to 9202.73 points.
A total of 36,23,735 shares worth Tk 43.01 crore changed hands at the port city bourse. Of the issues traded, 88 advanced and 61 declined and one remained unchange.
