National Tourism Authority next month
Mahbub Jamil, special assistant to the chief adviser, has announced National Tourism Authority (NTA) would be formed next month.
He said the proposed authority will be powerful and independent, says a press release.
The proposed authority would play the role of a regulator and facilitator of the tourism industry, he said, adding that the necessary law in this regard is expected to be finalised by June 17.
Mahbub Jamil was speaking at a roundtable on tourism in Dhaka on Saturday. The Banglalink roundtable on Immediate Needs to Develop Tourism in Bangladesh was jointly organised by Daily Samakal and The Bangladesh Monitor.
The special assistant said the question of the country's branding would be taken up after the formation of NTA. The issue concerning the short, medium and long-term development of infrastructure would also come up according to plans, he added.
Earlier, the keynote paper, presented by Raquib Siddiqi, chief editor of The Bangladesh Monitor, recommended formation of powerful and independent national tourism organisation.
Abed Khan, editor of Daily Samakal, moderated the roundtable.
