'Ban Jamaat-Shibir politics'

Leaders of Workers Party and its students' wing Chhatra Moitri yesterday demanded a ban on politics of 'Jamaat-Shibir' across the country.
They said this while addressing a memorial meeting in Rajshahi, organised to mark the 20th death anniversary of Jamil Akhtar Ratan, former president of Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital (RMCH) unit of Chhatra Moitri.
They urged the chief advisor of caretaker government to take steps for immediate arrest, trial and exemplary punishment to those responsible for killing of Ratan.
They also vowed to resist Jamat-Shibir politics at all educational institutions across the country.
On this day in 1988, Ratan was killed by cadres of Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) on RMCH campus.
A silent procession was brought out in front of the Workers' Party office. Processionists wore black badges and paraded different streets of Rajshahi city. The procession ended near the grave of Ratan on RMCH campus. Wreaths were also placed on the killing spot and the grave of Ratan.
Before the meeting, one-minute silence was observed in memory of the martyred student leader.
Earlier, the oath-taking ceremony was conducted by Workers' Party politburo member Fazle Hossain Badsha.
Among others, Workers' Party leaders Liakat Ali Liku, Rafikul Islam Piarul and Chhatra Moitree leaders Rezwan Ali Raju, Aktaruzzman Sumon, Asraful Islam Tota addressed.
