394 new astt judges to join offices May 22
Some 394 new assistant judges will join their offices on May 22 for discharging official duties.
Sources in the Supreme Court (SC) said all processes for their recruitments, including posting and determination of workplaces, have already been finalised and the SC authorities will today start issuing appointment letters to them. The authorities in the appointment letters will ask them to join their offices on May 22.
"After joining offices, the new judges will be provided with a brief training for seven workdays on judicial functions and then they will start discharging their duties," the sources said.
On April 17 last, Bangladesh Judicial Service Commission (BJSC) selected 394 candidates who passed the preliminary, written and viva tests for the posts of assistant judges.
According to the sources, at least 478 posts of judges are now lying vacant in the lower judiciary.
After beginning implementation of separation of the judiciary from the executive on November 1 last year, the SC authorities took initiatives to fill up the vacant posts of judges through the BJSC.
Earlier, SC Registrar Iktedar Ahmed said a speed would come into the lower judiciary after joining of new judges to their offices.
