Following orders from the higher authorities, the local administration yesterday visited Samannopara Primary School and recommended closing the brickfield adjacent to the school in Santhia upazila.
Earlier on May 6, a news item headlined 'School runs with doors, windows closed' was published in The Daily Star.
An official team led by Sujanagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Saiful Islam visited Samannopara Primary School and the brickfield yesterday morning and asked the brickfield authorities to close the brick field.
“We have also prepared a report, recommending immediate stoppage of the brick field and cancellation of its license and environment certificate. We will send the report to the deputy commissioner office,” said the UNO.
Santhia upazila Primary Education Officer Md Abu Taleb said they have also recommended closing the brickfield.
To lessen the effects of heavy smoke and the dust from Mollah brickfield adjacent to Samannopara Primary School, doors and windows of the school are shut while holding classes. Students often suffer from allergy and other problems due to the situation.
