Explosives recovered in Sylhet, 3 held
Kanaighat police yesterday recovered about 500 grams of explosives from a house at a bordering village.
Three persons including a woman were arrested.
Police said, Sub Inspector of Kanaighat police station went to arrest some wanted people at Dauker Gul village early morning yesterday. Informed by locals, police arrested one Moiyob Ali of the village and recovered some explosives trapped with his body.
Acting on his confession, police recovered more explosives from the houses of Rina Begum, 40, wife of Foyez Ali and her son-Khaled Miah in nearby Bhalukmara village. The villages are only one and a half kilometres off the Meghalayan border, police said. A case had been started under the explosives law, police said.
The explosives were later detonated at the police station by using electric detonators. Explosives are used for limestone collection from quarries in Maghalaya. Small bridge or culvert can be destroyed by such explosives, police said.
