Singapore Airlines raises fuel surcharge
Singapore Airlines (SIA) said Wednesday it and its regional wing SilkAir will raise their fuel levy from next week to cope with soaring jet fuel prices.
For flights between Singapore and other Southeast Asian countries, the fuel surcharge will be raised to 35 US dollars from 30 dollars per sector starting Monday, SIA said in a statement.
The surcharge for flights between Singapore and the United States and Canada will increase to 150 dollars from 130 dollars per sector and to 95 dollars from 80 dollars on all other flights.
SIA said the price of jet fuel is now more than 140 dollars per barrel and the surcharge increases will offer only a partial relief to higher operating costs.
"Singapore Airlines will continue to monitor the price of jet fuel and keep the application of the fuel surcharge under active review," it said.
