Rasheda Mohiuddin passes away
Rasheda Mohiuddin, a prominent Awami League (AL) leader and social worker, passed away at Lab Aid Cardiac Hospital in the city on Thursday at the age of 48.
She left behind her four brothers, one sister and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn her death.
Rasheda, also a former English newscaster for Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar, was admitted to Modern Hospital at Dhanmondi in the city with severe teeth ache on Tuesday. She was struck by a severe stroke after undergoing an operation there.
Later she was shifted to LabAid Cardiac Hospital where she breathed her last at 6:20am on Thursday.
She was laid to rest at Martyred Intellectual Graveyard in Mirpur after a namaz-e-janaza on Baitul Mukarram National Mosque premises after Juma prayers.
Her body was first taken to her Kalyanpur residence where her first namaz-e-janaza was held. Later, her body was taken to Muktagachha and brought back to Dhaka after another namaz-e-janaza there.
A namaz-e-janaza was also held at AL central office at Bangabandhu Avenue.
Born in Karachi in Pakistan in 1955, Rasheda did her honours and masters from Mass Communi-cation and Journalism department of Dhaka University. She also studied in London.
She served as the public relation officer at Hotel Sheraton. She also contested 2001 general election from Muktagachha constituency as an AL candidate.
AL acting president Zillur Rahman and acting general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam condoled her death.
Bangabandhu Sanskritik Jote and teachers, students, officials and employees of Mass Communication and Journalism department of Dhaka University also condoled her death.
