Over 50 BCL men sued for breaking EPR
Police filed a case against 50 to 60 leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Chittagong University (CU) unit Wednesday night in connection with bringing out a procession on campus violating the Emergency Power Rules (EPR).
Sub-inspector (SI) Wali Ullah of Hathazari Police Station in the first information report (FIR) mentioned the names of nine leaders and activists of BCL while the other accused were mentioned as unknown.
The identified accused are BCL CU unit's Science and Technology Deputy Secretary Jewel, assistant secretaries Razu and Sohel, and activists Idris, Khorshed, Riyel, Aftarul, Tanjim and Rimon.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Hathazari Police Station Mohammad Alamgir said the BCL activists brought out a procession on the CU Railway Station premises Wednesday afternoon violating the EPR. They also chanted provocative slogans, the OC said.
Sources said BCL brought out the procession protesting against Islami Chhatra Shibir activists' alleged painting over of their graffiti at the station and the CU shuttle train.
They claimed the Shibir men erased "71" on a wall of the station and the carriages of the shuttle train and wrote "75".
