Traditional horse race in Pabna

A traditional horse race was held at the Natabaria village, Chatmohar upazila, Pabna recently. The NGO 'Chalan Beel Uddyog' organised the event. Hundreds of people from Pabna, Sirajganj and Nator joined in to celebrate the event. People of this region celebrate the festival in Baishakh.
Chatmohar upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) SM Rafiqunnabi inaugurated the occasion. Officer in charge of Chatmohar police station, Zahidul Islam; Beel Chalan Union Parishad (UP) Chairman, Mohammed Ali, and Executive Director of 'Chalan Beel Uddyog', Safiqul Islam were present at the inaugural programme.
Competitors from Chatmohar and other areas of 'Chalan Beel' took part in the contest.
"Horse racing is a part of our rural heritage. However, this tradition is gradually fading away. For the past nine years we have been arranging this event to encourage the tradition," said Md. Shafiqul Islam, executive director of 'Chalan Beel Uddyog'.
