Mashiur Rahman Sumon, known as 'Sumon Prabahan' to his friends and readers, passed away on April 19, 2008. He committed suicide. Sumon was an upcoming poet, writer and artist. His works were published in several little magazines including Kalnetra and Buktan. He was one of the editors of Buktan. Sumon was born in November 11, 1976 in Patuakhali.
As homage to the poet, Sumon's friends arranged a memorial programme titled Ek Khando Ekakitto at Chhobir Haat (cross the street from Institute of Fine Arts, DU) recently. The programme included recitation and display of Sumon's poetry, symbolic installation and songs.
“Solitude was the essence of Sumon Prabahan's poetry,” said Ferdous Mahmud, one of the deceased poet's friends. Ferdous rendered one of Sumon's poems, Eka.
Among others, Nrip Anup, Shomeswar Oli, Ishti, Bibriti Tanvir, Zihan Saba Punam, Imran Majhi and Nirlipta Nayan recited Sumon's poems – Imam, Charidikey Chaitrer Chauchir, Alaukik Bodhey Bodhir, Bou Kotha Kao, Time Machine, Nikhoj Biggapti and Keu Noi Shunyo Matal respectively.
An installation that featured a suspended noose on a piece of mirror aroused questions in the viewer's mind.
