Potatoes
While Adviser CS Karim and Army Chief General Moeen suggested the people to substitute potatoes for rice with some good intention, they said something that is open to debate. Potatoes have much higher GI index than rice or other grains. Too much intake of potatoes can trigger diabetes in some people. Those who are already diabetic risk raising their blood sugar to dangerous levels by eating too much potatoes.
Another option is to take sweet potatoes. What most people do not know is that sweet potatoes are not only full of vitamins, these are actually very anti diabetes. Some consider them to be medicinal. Other options are beans or even lentils. Beans and sweet potatoes are relatively inexpensive and can be grown easily.
I do understand that potatoes are very popular and people are likely to choose them more than what I am suggesting. If they must take them, they should at least consider eating without peeling them - most of the fibre and vitamins reside in the skin.
