Road accidents kill 8
At least eight people were killed and 12 others injured in separate road accidents in Manikganj, Savar, Comilla and Chapainawabganj yesterday.
Our correspondent from Manikganj reports: Two people were killed and another was injured in separate road accidents on Dhaka-Paturia highway in Manikganj yesterday.
Police said one person was killed and another injured when a Dhaka-bound speeding bus hit a motorcycle at around 2:00pm at Uchutia Bridge under Manikganj Sadar police station.
The dead was identified as motorcyclist Mozaffar Ahmed, 38, son of Biltu Bepari of Dudh Bazar in Manikganj town and injured Mukuli Begum, wife of Abul Kashem of Hejuli village in the Manikganj municipality area.
Mozaffar succumbed to his injuries on the way to Dhaka Medical College Hospital while was condition of Mukuli Begum was stated to be critical.
Mozaffar was riding the motorcycle with his friend's wife Mukuli Begum.
Meanwhile, a young man was killed in a road accident at Paturia ferry ghat at around 12:45am.
The accident occurred when a Daulatdia-bound bus hit Ruhul Amin, 30, helper of a truck and inhabitant of Jhenidah, while he was crossing the road. He succumbed to his injuries at the Manikganj Sadar Hospital, police said.
UNB from Savar reports: Three people were killed and six others injured when a truck hit a human hauler 'Maxi' on Nabinagar-Kaliakoir road at Baroipara on Saturday night.
Witnesses said the accident occurred when Dhaka-bound truck, loaded with onion, hit a passenger-laden Maxi at about 11:30pm, killing three passengers on the spot.
Vehicular movement on the route remained halted for around two hours following the accident. Later, police on information, rushed to the spot and restored the communication. They also rushed the injured to the Orthopedic Hospital and other local clinics.
The bodies were sent to the Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy. One of them was identified as Monir, 22, hailed from Bogra, while identities of two others, aged around 25, could not be known.
Another report from Comilla adds: Two people were killed and five others injured
When a Pajero jeep hit a covered van on Dhaka-Chittagong highway in Chandina upazila yesterday.
Police said two passengers of the jeep died on the spot when the speeding vehicle bound for Comilla from Dhaka rammed into a covered van at about 7:00am.
The dead were identified as Kamal Hossain, 45, and Mafizul Islam, 26.
Five injured passengers of the jeep were admitted to different local hospitals.
Our correspondent from Chapainawabganj adds: An old man was killed in a road accident on Chapainawabganj-Sonamasjid highway in the Moharajpur Ghora stand area in Chapainawabganj yesterday.
The victim was identified as Shahjahan, 65, of Chawkghorapakhia village of Shibganj upazila.
Police and locals said the accident occurred at around 5:00am when a Shibganj-bound passenger bus from Dhaka hit Shahjahan's cycle while he was going to the town, leaving him dead on the spot.
Police sent the body to Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy.
