Concert at Sheraton to raise funds for children

Dhaka Sheraton Hotel and ntv in association with UNICEF arranged a fund raising concert at the Winter Garden, Sheraton Hotel on April 11. The audience rocked on as popular artistes Bappa Majumdar, James and the band Souls performed.
The concert is a part of the global UNICEF programme “Check Out for Children” to raise funds for the treatment of fatal childhood diseases. As part of the programme, guests were requested to donate one dollar (or local currency equivalent) to the initiative.
General Manager of Dhaka Sheraton Hotel, Trevor McDonald; Acting Representative of UNICEF in Bangladesh Iyorlumun Uhaa; Khairul Anwar Mukul, chief news editor, ntv and Rabeth Khan, chief executive officer of Macomm Resolve spoke at the programme. Macomm Resolve was the event management partner.
The concert started with a performance by children benefited from projects funded by UNICEF. They performed a jari-gaan, Chal chal school-e jai, highlighting the importance of basic education for children. The young ones performed a number of songs and recited poems.
Artiste Bappa Majumdar took the stage next and performed four songs including Din bari jaye, Pori, Baaji and Bioscope.
Souls was next to perform with Nasim Ali Khan as the vocalist. Soul's performances included evergreen songs Mon shudhu mon chhuyechhey and Sagor-er oi prantorey. They also rendered the Eagles classic Hotel California.
James and Nagar Baul were the last to perform. James, widely known as 'Guru' to his fans, rendered Diwana mastana, Lace fita lace, Ma, Mira bai and more.
The concert also featured Sheraton's in house band 'On D Spot'. The Philippino band performed covers of popular English songs.
Nescafe, Panasonic and Rahimafroz were the other partners of the event. Radio Foorti was the media partner of the event.
