8 Jamaat-Shibir activists held in 2 districts

Police in separate drives arrested seven activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir in sadar upazila of Gazipur district early yesterday.
The arrested persons were identified as Abu Taher, Abu Saleh Mohammad, Forhad Hossain, Mehedi Hasan, Ahsan Habib, Faisal Amin Tanvir and Jahirul Islam.
Acting on a tip off, a team from Joydevpur Police Station conducted the drives from 3:00am to 5:00am yesterday at Baimal in Konabari, Shimultali and Paschim Bhuramblia areas and arrested them with leaflets, two hard disks, CPU, CDs and books on jihad from their possession.
A case was filed against the arrested people with the police station, said Sub-Inspector (SI) Jahidul Islam.
Our staff correspondent from Chittagong reports, police arrested an activist of Jamaat-e-Islami from Phartali area in Chittagong city on charge of vandalising vehicles during Tuesday's hartal.
The arrestee was identified as Dr Shahdat Hossain, 50, hailing from the city's North Kattali area.
"On secret information, we arrested him from the street in front of Al-Amin Hospital at around 8:00am," said Sub-Inspector Abu Salek of Pahartali Police Station.
Drives would continue to nab the activist of Shibir, the SI added.
