3 murdered in city
Three people were murdered in separate incidents at Jatrabari, Sutrapur and Khilgaon in the city in the last two days.
Jatrabari police said Abdul Awal, a rickshaw-van puller of Dayaganj, was returning to Dayaganj with goods of Chandana Sound System from Gulshan when five muggers intercepted him at Dhalpur at around 1:30am.
The muggers stabbed him as he refused to give his cellphone. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where the doctors declared him dead.
In another incident, mob lynched an unidentified mugger, aged 30, while he along with his accomplice Liton, 30, was trying to rob a pedestrian of his belongings at Tipu Sultan Road in Sutrapur at around 6:00am yesterday, Sutrapur police said.
As the pedestrian cried out for help locals rushed to the spot and beat them up. Sutrapur police seized two sharp knives and a motorbike from their possession.
Liton received severe injuries and was rushed to DMCH.
Meanwhile, mob beaten a hoodlum to death at Goran in Khilgaon area when he along with his accomplices went to evict tenants on behalf of the house owner at 8:00pm on Saturday.
Khilgaon police said as the tenant started screaming, locals rushed to the spot and beat them up. Later, they handed over five men to police.
Family members of Nuruzzaman, the owner of the house, said they tried to evict the family because it had not paid the rent for six months.
However, quoting locals police said Nuruzzaman with some 10 miscreants tried to evict the tenants without informing police.
