Nursing students continue agitation, boycott exams
Students of Pabna Nursing Institute yesterday boycotted midterm examinations demanding removal of institute in-charge Halima Khatun
The student nurses staged a demonstration on the campus and issued fresh ultimatum, setting November 5 as deadline to remove the in-charge. Otherwise, they threatened to put the institute under lock and key.
On November 1, they gave a three-day ultimatum through an application submitted to Dr Monwarul Aziz, assistant director of Pabna Medical College Hospital, to remove Halima Khatun by November 3.
To press for the same demand, over 150 students of the institute also submitted an application to the director of nursing under the Directorate General of Health Services last week.
In the letter, they alleged that Halima Khatun often misbehaves with the students, threatens to take action 'in case of results' and mentally tortures them, causing disturbance to academic activities at the institute.
Contacted by this correspondent, Dr Monwarul Aziz said, "The nursing institute is controlled by the director of nursing under the Directorate General of Health Services. As the students earlier lodged a complaint with the director of nursing against the in charge of Pabna Nursing Institute, they should wait for the next action of the DG office.”
He further said that a team from the DG office will soon visit the institute and investigate the allegations against the in-charge.
Refuting the allegations, Halima Khatun said the students might have been instigated by others. “The director of nursing will take action if I am guilty," she said.
