Detectives arrested two police members along with 500 rounds of bullets at a rented flat in the city's Mirpur area early yesterday.
The arrestees are Janglal Chakma, 38, and Prem Chakma, 36, nayeks of Public Order Management -- a reserved unit of the police stationed in Mirpur.
The bullets of Ak-47 were kept in two bags, said a press release of Detective Branch (DB) of Police.
It said the arrestees were set to go to the Chittagong Hill Tracks to sell the bullets to members of Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) for Tk 4 lakh.
The two were being interrogated at the Minto Road's DB office to ascertain the source of the bullets.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Latif of Kafrul Police Station said no case was filed in this connection till yesterday evening.
