House tutor confesses to killing

Law enforcers on Wednesday arrested a youth who confessed to hacking to death a mother and her two children after his failed attempt to rape her on Tuesday.
The bloodied bodies of Doly Akhter, 30, wife of expatriate Anwar Hossain, and her children Albhi Ibn Anwar, 10, and Adiba Payel, 6, were found in their fifth-floor residence in Chittagong's Khotiber Haat area.
The youth Tareque Chowdhury, 22, who used to tutor the children, was arrested after he arrived in the residence and asked the landowner about the murder, said Chittagong Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam.
Doly had first tried fending off Tareque, a first-year student of Kulgaon City Corporation Evening College, with a knife during the rape attempt, said Commissioner Shafiqul quoting the arrestee.
Tareque had then wrestled the knife out of her hands and murdered all three so as to leave no witnesses, he said.
He then washed himself and the knife and left. He told his uncle, with whom he lived in the city's Bayezid Bostami area, that the blood on his clothes was the result of an accident, he added.
Police found two mobile phones belonging to the victims and Tareque's blood-stained clothes from his house while blood and a footprint on the crime scene were found to be his, he added.
