Road crashes kill 3
At least three people were killed and two others injured in separate road accidents in Narayanganj, Satkhira and Jhenidah yesterday.
BSS from Narayanganj reports: A teenage garment worker was killed when a speeding truck hit her on Dhaka-Sylhet Highway at Kanchpur under Sonargaon police station yesterday.
The dead was identified as Moina Begum, 13, a garment worker of Jubeda Textile Mills at Borpa.
The accident took place when Moina was crossing the road on the way to home after completion of night shift at 6:00am yesterday. A Dhaka-bound truck from Narsingdi knocked her down.
The local people caught the driver Osman Mia, 45, and seized the truck.
Later, the driver and the truck were handed over to Sonargaon police.
The body was sent to Narayanganj General Hospital for autopsy.
Our correspondent from Satkhira adds: A school student was killed and another injured in a road accident on Satkhira-Khulna road near Mirzapur in Tala upazila yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Shamim, 10, son of Asgar Ali Gazi of village Amtalardangi and a student of class six of Jujkhola High school of Tala upazila.
The injured Milon, 14, son of Akbar Ali Gazi of the same village and a student of class nine of the same school, was taken to Sadar hospital in critical condition, hospital sources said.
Quoting local people, police said the accident took place when a Khulna-bound bus hit the victims when they were going to school riding a bi-cycle, leaving Shamim dead on the spot and Milon injured.
OUR CORRESPONDENT from Jhenidah says: A girl was killed and his grandfather injured in a road accident at Amtala on Jhenidah- Kushtia highway in Jhenidah yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Mohine, 10, and the injured Abdul Aziz of Shikarpur village under Sadar upazila.
Police and locals said the accident occurred when a Jhenidah-bound bus hit them while they were returning home in a bi-cycle from their relative's house at Kulchara village under Sadar upazila. Mohine died on the spot.
Aziz was rushed to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital from where he was shifted to Dhaka as his condition deteriorated.
