Case filed for '71 killings
A murder case has been filed against 12 people for torture and killing several people during the Liberation War.
Bodiur Rahman alias Buddhu of Parchouka village of Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj yesterday filed the case with Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court in Chapainawabganj.
The accused are Fazlur Rahman, 60, Kubed Ali, 70, of Parchouka village, Mortuza, 65, Ainal Hoque, 60, of Raninagar, Zafar Ali, 70, of Chowdhuritola, Yeasin Ali, 61, Mohasen Ali, 65, Hobu, 58, of Housenagar, Zillur Rahman, 59, of Binodpur, Dwin Mohammad, 62, of Zagannathpur, Elias, 56, of Monakasha and Dwin Mohammad, 70, of Biswanathpur of Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ratneshwar Bhattacharya recorded the complainant's statement and directed the officer-in-charge (OC) of Shibganj Police Station to register the murder case as a first information report (FIR).
The court also asked the OC to investigate the case and submit report on it on April 2. Names of eight people have mentioned as witnesses in the ca se.
The case was filed under sections 302 (murder) and 34 (criminal liability) of Bangladesh Penal Code.
The complainant said some local people formed a Razakar team to help 'save the integrity of Pakistan' and occupation forces started killing people of the area.
In the morning on October 7, 1971, a gang of armed Razakars raided Monakasha village in Shibganj upazila. They caught twelve people, tortured him near at Monakasha Humayun Reza High School, and killed them by fire arms at 5:00pm.
Among the killed were Badiur Rahman's father Moslem and his uncle Islam, Badiur Rahman said in his complaint.
