ACC to sue two ex-MPs in Satkhira for hiding wealth information
The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) is preparing to file two cases against former BNP lawmaker Habibul Islam Habib and Jamaat-e-Islami lawmaker Gazi Nazrul Islam for hiding assets in their wealth statements.

Satkhira district BNP president Habibul Islam Habib and Jamaat leader Gazi Nazrul Islam were elected from Satkhira-1(Tala-Kalaroa) constituency and Satkhira-5 (Shyamnagar) constituency respectively in 2001 elections as 4-party alliance candidates.
Habib is now on the run to evade arrest. Gazi Nazrul Islam was arrested by joint forces on March 9 last year and released on bail by a court here on February 4.
Both were on ACC's second list of corruption suspects published on March 7 last year.
The ACC had issued separate notices to them to submit their wealth statements to it.
Habib submitted statement to ACC in September showing his assets at over Tk over 3.
But ACC investigation revealed that he possessed about Tk 87, 84,000 assets beyond his legal sources of income, which was not mentioned in the wealth statement. The assets included a luxurious car worth Tk 45 lakh and over Tk 31 lakh in cash.
Nazrul Islam submitted his statement in September 10 last year through jail authorities showing his assets valued at over Tk 32, 74000. But the ACC during investigation found more Rk 11 lakh assets, which were beyond his known sources of income, ACC sources said. These include a land at Shyamnagar upazila head quarters and bank deposit.
The ACC sources said they have submitted their investigation reports to higher authorities.
Cases will be filed after approval by ACC authorities in Dhaka, they said.
On contact, Habib and Nazrul Islam claimed that they did not hide anything in their wealth statements.
