Language martyrs

21st February is a proud day for any Bangladeshi. It was on this day in 1952 that the valiant students defied the ban on processions to protest against the decision to make Urdu the state language. Bengalis were representing 56% of the population of Pakistan.
We have to evaluate the incident with a few practical issues in order to honour the day more appropriately, rather than looking at it as an emotive occasion only.
Note that the decision to defy the ban was not approved or supported by the political parties of the then East Pakistan.
Only issuing statements on the greatness of the day will not pull the Bengali nation out of the already degraded state we are in.
