AL attack leaves 15 including BNP men injured
At least 15 people including BNP activists were injured and 10 houses ransacked in an attack, allegedly by Awami League (AL) activists at Pirpur village at Mirzapur union in Raipura upazila yesterday.
Police said there had been a longstanding dispute between local AL leader and Mirzapur union parishad (UP) chairman Manzur Elahi and former chairman Faizur Rahman, vice president of the district unit BNP, over establishing dominance in the area.
Yesterday, the AL activists led by Manzur, attacked the BNP activists and supporters of Faizur Rahman, leaving 15 people injured at about 8pm.
The attackers also ransacked 10 houses and looted valuables worth about Tk six lakh, the victims claimed.
The injured were admitted to the upazila health complex and Narsingdi Sadar Hospital.
Being informed, police rushed in and brought the situation under control. They also detained six people from the spot.
