The government has also decided to release a total of 14 prisoners from different jails, including one from Dhaka Central Jail, ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr this year.
“Vermicelli and puffed rice will be served among prisoners in the breakfast while fish, rice and alur dam (potato dish) in the lunch and aromatic rice, meat and sweets in the dinner,” Assistant Inspector General of Prisons (admin) AKM Zahiruddin Babar told the news agency yesterday.
The government has allocated additional Tk 30 for each of the prisoners to arrange special meal for themselves, he said.
He also said an order was issued on August 14 regarding the release of 14 prisoners from different jails across the country.
“We have already sent the necessary papers to jails asking them to release the 14 prisoners on the occasion of the Eid after getting the home ministry's nod to it,” he added.
The home ministry decided to free the prisoners, who were charged with minor offences, from jails upon a proposal of the jail authorities, ministry sources said.
A total of 181 prisoners were released from different jails across the country ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr in the last year.
