4 held for forging documents for passports
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) yesterday arrested four employees of a recruiting agency in Chittagong city on charge of forging documents required for Machine Readable Passport (MRP).
The force also seized 62 passports, Tk 1.7 lakh in cash, four mobile phones, and many types of equipment for making forged documents like birth certificate, national identity card, medical certificate and police verification certificate.
“This gang is taking extra money and normal passports from people in the name of processing MRP for them. They used to forge documents necessary with the application for MRP,” said Maj Raqibul Amin, deputy director of Rab-7.
Maj Raqibul led a raid on the office of the recruiting agency Royal Enterprise in Zilla Praishad Market and arrested Mojibur Rahman, 40, Golam Mostafa, 34, Fauzul Amin, 28 and Hamidur Rahman, 30. They all hail from Banshkhali Upazila of Chittagong and are employees of the agency.
In the preliminary interrogation, the arrestees admitted doing the crime, the Rab officer said. “They used to charge Tk 7,500 for urgent processing and Tk 4,500 for regular processing,” he added.
