Georgia fines Kaladze $10.3m

A court in Georgia has fined football star turned opposition member Kakha Kaladze $10.3 million (8.4 million euros) in a case which the retired Champions League winner claims is politically motivated.
Tbilisi City Court said it fined Kaladze because he withdrew $2 million from his bank accounts without supplying required information about how the money was spent.
Government official immediately became suspicious that he could be illegally funding the opposition ahead of parliamentary polls in October.
The court also impounded Kaladze's assets, including company shares and property.
