Govt to repair two Dhaka-Ctg highway bridges
A weeklong repair work of two major bridges, Meghna and Meghna-Gumti, on the Dhaka-Chittagong highway will begin on September 1.
Communications Minister Obaidul Quader said this to reporters after a meeting at Rail Bhaban yesterday.
Vehicular movement on the busy highway will remain suspended on both the bridges for six hours from midnight every day during the renovation period.
The two bridges are in a dilapidated condition due to river-bed scouring and damage in the expansion joints. Lack of maintenance and overloaded vehicles are also responsible for the damages.
Chief Engineer of Roads and Highways Department Aminur Rahman Laskar said the repair work would be done “on temporary basis”.
Bangladesh Army has been tasked with the permanent repair work of the two bridges, which will begin in December, he said.
