Bangladesh, India hold talks on renewable energy
The first Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting on renewable energy was held in New Delhi on Friday, where Bangladesh and India briefed each other on the present status and growth potential of renewable energy.
Tapos Kumar Roy, additional secretary of the ministry of power, led the Bangladesh delegation, while the Indian side was headed by Alok Srivastava, joint secretary of the new and renewable energy ministry.
The meeting was a follow-up to the memorandum of understanding on India-Bangladesh Renewable Energy Cooperation signed on September 6 last year in Dhaka during the visit of the Indian prime minister, the Indian High Commission in Dhaka said in a statement yesterday.
During the meeting, five areas of cooperation were identified, which include information exchange, institutional support, technical support, capacity building and research and development.
The Indian side invited the Bangladesh side to send its professionals to visit the institutions, field installations and also to participate in specialised training programmes. The host side also expressed its desire to learn more about the success of off-grid solar home system programme in Bangladesh.
During the meeting, it was agreed that a joint seminar will be organised to focus on the identified areas of cooperation.
The next JWG meeting will take place in Dhaka early next year, said the statement.
