One killed by BSF
Members of Indian Border Security Force (BSF) tortured a Bangladeshi cattle trader to death on Wednesday night and threw his body into the Saniyazan river along Burimari border in Patgram upazila here.
The dead is Abu Alam, 26, of Coattoli Railway Colony in the same upazila. The Indian border guards handed over the body to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) yesterday noon.
Alam along with some other cattle traders went to India on Wednesday night for bringing Indian cattle. Some BSF members picked him up and seized six cows, while the others managed to return into Bangladesh territory, said subedar Al Helal of Burimari BGB camp quoting the victim's family members and locals.
The Indian soldiers then took him to 104 BS Bari camp in Cooch Behar district of West Bengal and tortured him inhumanely.
On Thursday, BSF sent a message to BGB claiming that Alam drowned in the Saniyazan river when he was bringing some cows. Later they found the body floating in the river and recovered it.
Victim's wife Mohsena Begum Sumi said she initially could not identify her husband's body as his face and head were badly mutilated due the torture by the BSF. She identified the body only after closely watching the clothes and hands.
Maj Ruhul Amin, second in-command of Lalmonirhat 31 Border Guard Battalion, confirmed the incident. He said they have sent a letter to the BSF protesting the homicide.
